Tasting notes
Lemon-yellow in colour with green fruit aromas of melon, green apple and pear with a hint of butter from the oak. Medium-bodied on the palate with further floral notes and an elegant mineral backbone. The finish is lingering with notes of lime. Great food wine! A particularly good accompaniment to chicken.

Why we recommend this wine
Clean, buttery, oaky, lemony chardonnay at a reasonable price for the area made by a family owned wine maker who nurtures nature. Need we say more?

The wine
Low yields, judicious use of new oak and minimum filtration are what make the wines what they are. Vinification and ageing is traditional in foudres (70%), the rest in futs de chene. The wine remains on the lees before bottling. After 12 months of ageing the wines are bottled with minimum filtration. The wines are well structured and exhibit mineral, steely, fruit characters as well as displaying much finesse. Its lovely nose of honey, pear and apple and great mouth feel are typical of a really good wine from this area.

The wine estate
Domaine Thibert Père et Fils is a family-owned domaine located in the small village of Fuissé in the heart of the Mâconnais. There have been winegrowers in the family for seven generations, but it wasn't until 1967 when, with only two and a half hectares of vines, the parents of Christophe and Sandrine set up their own business. Since then the domaine has gone from selling the whole production in bulk to bottling everything themselves. It has gone from just a few hectares to 22 hectares of vines. And in 2007 they slowly began moving towards organic winegrowing.
Their goal is always to combine the best of traditional and modern practices. Their plots are worked in a system of “mixed” viticulture. Drawing on our years of experience and the knowledge they have acquired, they always respect their vineyards and soils, while adapting their practices to climatic conditions. “You can only bring out the best of a vineyard if you think about its long-term well being.”

Did you know?
Pouilly-Fuisse and Pouilly Fume are often confused but are very different. The former is Chardonnay and the latter is Sauvignon Blanc from the banks of the Loire river which is an easy car trip away.
