Conti Zecca 2024 Cantalupi Negroamaro

£14.50

Tasting notes
A deep ruby red, velvety and savoury with aromas of ripe red fruits and spices. Great with rich antipasti, red meats and hard cheeses.

Why we recommend this wine
We had a great time during our wine trip to the heel of Italy. We were really impressed with the Negoamaro and Primitivo that we tasted and drank with meals. They were a great match for the local cuisine. This Negroamaro from Conti Zecca is a very good example.

The wine
This wine is made from 80% Negroamaro and 20% other local red grapes. The vines are 20-25 years old, grown on alluvial soils with areas of limestone. It is fermented in stainless steel and aged in cement tanks to keep the fruit character pure, with no oak influence.

The wine estate
The Zecca family has been in Leverano, Puglia, since 1580. The Conti Zecca winery was founded in the early 20th century and is now one of Salento's most important historic producers. The family farms over 320 hectares, focusing on native grapes and combining traditional and modern methods to make authentic, quality wines.

Food and wine
This wine is a great match for rustic, flavourful food. Try it with orecchiette pasta with a meat ragù, eggplant parmigiana, or grilled lamb. It also pairs well with hard, aged cheeses like Pecorino. Refer also to our food and wine pairing guide, click here.

Did you know?
The name Negroamaro is thought to come from two words for "black" - the Latin and the ancient Greek. This "black-black" name is a fitting description for the grape's dark skin and the deep colour of the wine. It is grown almost exclusively in Apulia.
