Tasting notes
Fresh citrus-y nose with hints of patisserie, lemony-acid hit on the palate, with subdued but delicious hints of tropical fruit with a long and clean finish. Lovely wine. Ideal with fish dishes or cold meats.

Why we recommend this wine
The wines from the South West of France are different form the rest of the country and finding them in half bottles is rare. This is a great example from the area.

The wine
The Lapeyre sec is made of 100% Gros Manseng. The harvest is always late especially for a dry white wine. Grapes are destemmed then pressed, with a short period of settling. Fermentation is in stainless steel, temperature-controlled vats. The wine is aged in tank on its lees with regular stirring until spring. The bottling takes place at the end of the following winter. Alow an hour for the wine to open up.

The wine estate
This family farm was originally involved in mixed farming with livestock, small fruits and grapes which were taken to the local cooperative. From 1985 onwards, the estate was turned over exclusively to viticulture. “Because we want to produce natural, expressive and sincere wines, we use organic viticulture, a method which respects the plant and its environment ; a method which allows our varieties to express the minerality of the pudding stone soils, the fresh air of the Pyrenees mountains (25km away), and the Atlantic Ocean, 100km away, helps moderate temperatures.”

Food and wine
Drink with shellfish, or with fish dishes with spicy, curried or saffron sauces. Will go well with a tender and tasty goat’s cheese or a fresh sheep’s milk cheese, or just a slice of air-dried ham or sausage. Also see our guide to pairing food and wine here.

Did you know?
Gros Manseng is used to make both sweet and dry wines. The timing of the harvest determines the sugar levels in the grapes – the later the harvest the more sugar.
