Rhône
Châteauneuf-du-Pape vineyard strewn with large pebbles known as galets
Basically a long thin wine region on the banks of the Rhône stretching from Lyon to Auvignon. On our trips we like to sart at the furthest point from the UK and then eat and drink our way home. But, as you can see from the map below, the wineries come in clumps so you can taste on the way down and on the way back! The Northern quarter of the area is dominated by Syrah and the rest by Grenache. The North also has the white Marsanne and Roussane varietals which we really love as a blend. The whites in the South have a large number of varietals in their blend.
The winemakers that we have visited are shown in the map below. (Click on the icon to see our notes about the winemaker - the heart icons are our favourites.)
