Champagne
Champagne vineyards in the autumn
Champagne can be made from 3 grapes; 2 red and 1 white. They are Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay known for richness, fruitiness and refinement respectively. We have put together a tasting pack to enable you to compare and contrast the most common styles of champagne.
In Champagne a large proportion of the vineyards are family owned and worked. Traditionally they have sold their grapes to the Champagne “Houses” who then make the champagne. But an increasing number of families who own the better vineyards have gone into making their own champagne. Hence the term Grower Champagne. Grower Champagne plays right into what we stand for so the majority of the Champagnes that we offer are Grower Champagnes.
The Grower Champagne makers that we visit regularly are shown in the map below. (Click on the icon to see our notes about the winemaker - the heart icon is a favourite.) Obviously there are many more.
