Compare old world and new world Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are the foundation wines for red Bordeaux but are planted right across the world. This tasting pack compares two Bordeaux with two new world wines.
Bordeaux red wines include both cabernet and merlot in their blends, just in different proportions. Cabernet based wines have a majority of cabernet; similarly merlot based wines. In the new world wine makers usually make pure cabs and pure merlots but often have a bash at their own versions of a 'bordeaux blend'. The Ausies often also add shiraz to their blend.
The difference between the new and old world wines is dramatic; the difference between cultivars less so.
