La Crema 2022 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

£19.50
Tasting notes
A relatively rich and weighty Pinot with lots of fruit. Ideal with lean meats and poultry.

Why we recommend this wine
During our trip to Napa and Sonoma (see our trip notes here) we really enjoyed the cool climate Pinots and this is a good example of what we tasted.

The wine
The fruit was sourced from multiple vineyards throughout the Sonoma Coast AVA, including some well-known estate vineyards. The vines are grown on multiple soil types and are from multiple Pinot clones. The result? The concentration of the extreme Sonoma Coast; depth and spice from the Russian River Valley; the earthiness of Los Carneros, plus red fruit ¬flavors from the Green Valley.
The fruit was hand-sorted and gently de-stemmed, and then fermented primarily in open-top tanks and punched down three times per day during active fermentation. After fermentation the wine matured in new and used French oak barrels.

The wine estate
The family-owned and operated winery focuses exclusively on cool-climate appellations. In common with many other wine makers in the region they buy in their grapes from growers. (Many growers in this region make wines from their grapes but also sell grapes to improve their cashflow.)

Food and wine
The rich fruit but restrained wine pair well with foods that are lean rather than fatty and not too flavourful so no tomatoes or chillis. Refer also to our food and wine pairing guide, click here

Did you know?
A cool climate means grapes spend more time on the vine. That allows a deeper, more dramatic spectrum of flavors and aromas to develop. And that creates decidedly rich and layered wines.
