Tasting notes
White stone fruits and acacia on the nose with the palate having citrus and minerality. A wine to accompany rich seafood or chicken dishes.
Why we recommend this wine
When we visited Masson-Blondelet many years ago we were impressed by their range of sauvignons and how well they expressed the difference in the soils in which the vines were grown. This sauvignon has impressed year after year.
The wine
Villa Paulus is grown on Kimmeridgean marl (white clay and fossilised shells and oysters). It is fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks and spends some time on the lees before bottling. It is an excellent example of a Pouilly Fumé; aroma and palate. The winemaker suggests that you serve the wine chilled at 12°C.
The wine estate
Domaine Masson-Blondelet is run by the seventh generation of wine producers in the family. They produce elegant, very fine white wines using sustainable farming techniques (no fertiliser and free of herbicides and pesticides). They produce a handful of Pouilly Fumé including some that are oaked, a Sancerre and also several pinot noir reds.

Food and wine
A wine to accompany rich food; scrambled eggs with truffles, scallops, turbot, mushroom risotto or creamy chicken and rice. Also see our guide to pairing food and wine here.
Did you know?
Winemakers strive to make their wines express their terroir which includes the soil in which the vines are grown. If you want to taste the impact of terroir then compare this Pouilly Fumé to their Sancerre - the only difference is the soil; the cultivar and wine making approach are exactly the same.
