Tasting notes
Medium bodied with cherries, earthy notes and a touch of oak. Ideal with duck or salmon and subtle hard cheeses.

Why we recommend this wine
At the lighter end of the Cotes de Nuits wines they seem to be a blend of Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny styles and one that we rather like. Coming from a premier cru vineyard adds to the flavour. And 2015 is a top rated vintage in Burgundy.

The wine
Clos des Ormes is located on the hill below the Clos de la Roche Grand Cru vineyard in the northern part of the commune. The vineyard is known for its lush, structured wines with earthy, cherry characters.

The wine estate
Domaine Georges Lignier was established at the beginning of the 20th century when George inherited some vines from his father. He acquired the building where the Domaine is still located and set the ambition to make it one of the largest and most important Domaines in Morey Saint Denis. The Domaine has enviable vineyard holdings totaling 16 ha spread over 50 parcels not only in Morey-St-Denis but also in surrounding villages. The 4th generation of the family now runs the Domaine. Benoît Stehly took over sole responsibility in 2008, and since then the wines have become finer and finer. Village wines are matured in old oak while premiers crus see 30% new oak and grands crus generally about 50%.
We were not able to find a website which is not unusual in family-owned domaines in Burgundy.

Food and wine
Medium-bodied with good fruit puts it into the company of game birds and fish such a salmon or tuna. Also the more subtle hard cheeses. Also see our guide to pairing food and wine here.

Did you know?
The wine area of the village Morey-St.-Denis is one of the smallest in the area with only 150 hectares of vines. The Route des Grands Crus cut the area in half North to South with Grand Cru vineyards above the road towards the top of the hill, premier cru vineyards below the road and ordinary village wines in vineyards below that.
