Why we recommend this wine
Kim Crawford produces one of Marlborough’s benchmark Sauvignon Blancs. Consistently high ratings from wine critics, with scores typically ranging from 90-92 points and it has been named in the "Wine Spectator Top 100” four times. Can’t be that bad then!

The wine
100% Sauvignon Blanc grapes are sourced from various vineyards across Marlborough's sub-regions, including the Wairau Valley and Awatere Valley. The wine is cold-fermented in stainless steel tanks to preserve fresh fruit flavors and aromatics; a variety of selected yeast are chosen to express the natural characters of the Sauvignon Blanc. No oak aging. Suitable for both vegetarians and vegans although not certified; no animal products are used in the winemaking process and fining is done with gluten-free and vegan-friendly fining agents of pure pea protein and gallic tannins.

The wine estate
Founded in 1996 by Kim and Erica Crawford in Hawkes Bay in the North Island, they established themselves in the South Island in 2000 when they rented a state of the art winery and purchased vineyards in Marlborough’s cool Waihopai Valley. Kim sold the company to Constellation Brands in 2005 and has since handed the winemaking reins over to the Constellation winemaking team. The winemaking philosophy remains unchanged. They are committed to sustainable winegrowing practices as a member of Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand. Wine Enthusiast magazine USA recognised Kim Crawford as their “New World Winery of the Year 2016

Food and wine
Pairs brilliantly with fresh oysters, asparagus, lobster, or summer salads. For vegetarians, it pairs wonderfully with asparagus risotto or a Mediterranean vegetable tart. Refer also to our food and wine pairing guide, click here.

Did you know?
Marlborough is considered a perfect place for Sauvignon Blanc because of the diurnal shift (the difference between the average daytime high temperature and the average nighttime low temperature). During the daytime, strong and warm north-west winds from the mountains prevail, encouraging flower fertility and ripening. In the evenings, the temperature shifts. Clear cool nights from ocean breezes keep acid levels high in the grapes.
