Domaine Rapet Père et Fils, 2021, Pernand-Vergelesses Les Belles Filles Rouge

Tasting notes
On the nose, this wine offers a beautiful bouquet of red fruits like cherry and raspberry, complemented by subtle earthy and spice notes. The palate is elegant and fresh, with fine tannins and a long, persistent finish. Ideal with a classic Coq au Vin.
Why we recommend this wine
Whenever we go to Burgundy, we visit Pernand-Vergelesses because we are always impressed by the incredible value of their white and red wines. We often speculate why. Perhaps it’s because the village does not have a Grand Cru vineyard or perhaps it’s because the village name is not easily pronounceable if you are not French speaking. Whatever, this wine is a great example of a classic red Burgundy that over-delivers for its price point.
The wine
This is a 100% Pinot Noir wine. The grapes are sourced from the 'Les Belles Filles' vineyard which is situated in the Côte de Beaune on the border with the Côte de Nuits. The vines, with an average vine age of around 40 years, are planted in a mix of clay and limestone soils. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks lasts 15 days with gentle pigeages (punching down of the cap of grape skins and stalks), to encourage finesse., followed by aging for 12 months in oak barrels, with 20% new oak. The wine is bottled without fining or filtering to preserve its natural character.
The wine estate
Domaine Rapet Père et Fils is a historic family estate, with a winemaking tradition dating back to 1765. The current generation, led by Vincent Rapet, continues this legacy with a deep respect for their land. The domain comprises 20 hectares of vineyards, primarily in Pernand-Vergelesses, but also holdings in the nearby villages Aloxe Corton, Savigny-lès-Beaune and Beaune. They practice sustainable viticulture, focusing on organic methods to ensure the health of their vines and the purity of their wines.

Food and wine
The red fruit and earthy notes of this Pernand-Vergelesses make it a versatile partner for many dishes. Beyond Coq au Vin, we recommend pairing it with roasted duck, mushroom risotto, or a selection of mild cheeses like Comté or Gruyère. Refer also to our food and wine pairing guide, click here.
Did you know?
The village of Pernand-Vergelesses starts at the foot of the famous Corton hill, a Grand Cru site. This proximity means that many of the village's vineyards, including 'Les Belles Filles,' share a similar terroir and climate, allowing them to produce wines of exceptional quality that can often rival their more famous neighbours.
