Why we recommend this wine
We love Puligny-Montrachet and this is a classic made by a small family-owned winemaker; expensive but worth it!
The wine
The grapes come from half a dozen vineyards surrounding the town of Puligny-Montrachet. Hand harvested and fermented and aged in oak barrels for 9 to 10 months; 20 to 25% new oak. This adds a complex charm but retains a lovely concentration of fruit, displaying butterscotch and hazelnuts notes, and finishing with rich flavours of brioche and cinnamon.
The wine estate
A third-generation family wine maker that was founded in 1920 in Puligny-Montrachet and is now owned by Jean-Luc Pascal. It comprises 14 hectares of certified sustainable vineyards across four communes of Cote de Beaune, Auxey Duresses, Meursault, Volnay and Puligny-Montrachet. This small family domaine on the outskirts of the village of Puligny embodies meticulous traditional winemaking with minimal use of oak. They use the Guala Seal, an Italian three-piece synthetic cork that has been successful as an alternative to cork particularly in Burgundy.
