Grower Champagne - Testulat NV Carte d'Or Blanc de Noirs Brut

£23.00
Tasting notes
Rich, fruity champagne with notes of vanilla and peaches and all the biscuity richness one would expect from the reserve wine. Ideal as an aperitif and with subtly flavoured hors d'oeuvres and soft cheeses.

Why we recommend this wine
Blanc de Noirs are more to our taste and this is a very good example of what we like.

The wine
A 50/50 blend of Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier with half the wine from the latest vintage and half from the prior couple of years. Vinified in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats (to preserve the identity of the terroir) it then undergoes malolactic fermentation. After bottling it is aged for 36 months on racks then disgorged when a dosage of 10 grams/litre is added.

The wine estate
A fifth-generation family owned grower – maker (that is they make champagne from their own grapes rather than selling the grapes to someone else). Their vineyards are in Epernay, Mareuil le Port and the Côte des Bars. They have been based in Epernay since they were founded.

Food and wine
For a classic pairing, enjoy it with smoked salmon or a mushroom risotto. Vegetarians can savor the wine alongside a truffle-infused pasta or a creamy brie. Refer also to our food and wine pairing guide, click here.

Did you know?
The Côte des Bars, where a part of the grapes for this Champagne come from, is located about 85 miles (140km) south of Epernay where the limestone soil bands re-emerge and so is viewed as part of Champagne.
