Why we recommend this wine
Luckily, we agree with the wine world – the 2016 was winner of the 2019 Crus Bourgeois du Médoc Cup and The Wine Enthusiast included it in their best wines of the year 2019 ranking it 16th with a score 93 out of 100. And, it has just been awarded the Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel title/rank, only one of 14 of the estates on the Bordeaux Left Bank excluding the classed growths – quite a feat! The 2016 vintage was very good in Bordeax.

The wine
A blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot from vines with an average age of 35 years. The wine is aged for 12 to 15 months on fine lees in 35% new barrels - 50% one-year barrels.

The wine estate
A family run business who work along organic wines. They were taken over by Treasury Wine Estates a huge, listed wine producer who took charge from the 2019 vintage (obviously the family were still in charge for this 2016 vintage).

Food and wine
With rich fruit and good tannins it is the ideal match for rich grilled or roast meats , hearty stews, roast vegetables and strong, hard cheeses. Also see our guide to pairing food and wine here.

Did you know?
Very few red Bordeaux wines are purely one cultivar; whilst Cabernet and Merlot dominate you will also find Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec. The proportions of the wine in each vintage vary depending upon the success of each cultivar.
