Domaine de Beaumalric 2019 Muscat de Beaumes de Venise

£13.00
Tasting notes
A fruity aroma of fresh muscat grapes and lychees and a powerful taste. Well chilled a tasty aperitif but also delicious with desserts with fresh fruit.

Why we recommend this wine
Sweetness in dessert wines vary a lot, Muscats are on the less intense end of the range and this is a good example.

The wine
Made entirely from Muscat Blanc a Petit Grains from the Village of Beaumes-de-Venise in the Rhone valley, this is a style of sweet wine that dates back to the 14th century. Full of apricot, peach, orange peel and coconut aromas followed by unctuous, opulent layers of exotic fruit flavours on the palate and supported by high acidity which gives balance to the intense fruit.

The wine estate
Located in Beaumes-de-Venise itself, Domaine de Beaumalric is small, family-owned estate. It covers over 30 hectares and 4 areas.

Food and wine
Served traditionally with Caramel Buche de Noel (French Christmas cake) but will also go perfectly with appetisers like Foie gras and selections of cheeses particuarly blues like Rochebaron. Refer also to our food and wine pairing guide, click here.

Did you know?
The reason why this Muscat is more refined than grapes planted elsewhere is that the southern Rhone is the limit where the Muscat still matures enough to make a sweet wine. So it is in fact a cool climate for this grape. This ensures that the ripening of the grape takes longer and is more even than in more southern regions. The grape thus retains more fresh acidity and the sweetness is therefore in balance.
