Tasting notes
Rich and almost full bodied it goes well with gamey meat or charred root vegetables.

Why we recommend this wine
Organic, family-owned Barolo that is rich and full bodied. One can’t get much better than that.

The wine
100% Nebbiolo made from the carefully selected blend of the Monfalletto Estate vineyards in the town of La Morra. The vines are between 15 to 50 years, all with South/East and South/West exposures producing grapes with harmonious ripeness. The clayey and calcareous soils add elegance and complexity. Magnesium oxide and manganese in the soil facilitate the maturation of soft and dense tannins.
Each vineyard is harvested and vinified separately. 4 – 5 day maceration and another 10-12 to complete fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then drawn off into different sizes and types of wood barrels where malolactic fermentation takes place. All the lots are aged in French and Slovenian wood for between 18 to 24 months. The final assemblage of the chosen lots is bottled and released a year later.
The wine is intense garnet in color, the nose shows floral and spicy notes perfectly blended: tobacco, cherries, cocoa and fresh raspberry highlights. The palate is rich, full-bodied and elegant.
This is a wine for longevity that evolves slowly and steadily in the bottle even for several decades.

The wine estate
Converted to organic production in 2013, the Monfalletto property in the town of La Morra, the center of the production of Barolo wine, has been managed by 19 generations one after another since 1340. Today, the property is still entirely family-run.
The historical single-body vineyard area of 28 hectares (69 acres), rare for the area, extends over all sides of the hill. Over the years, further acquisitions and long-term leasing of vineyards have been made. Currently, the total vineyard area is 51 hectares (126 acres).

Food and wine
Ideally matched with game, jugged hare, braised beef, chamois, saddle of venison, wild boar, deer and pigeon. Superb with dishes garnished with white Alba truffle: cardoon flan with fondue: duck ravioli and mature cheese. Also see our guide to pairing food and wine here.

Did you know?
Vineyard yields are measured in hectoliters per Hectare. The vineyards for this wine produce 44 Hl/Ha which is 5,900 bottles/Ha or 2,350 bottles/Acre. Generally, the lower the production the better the wine.
