Why we recommend these wines
2015 was a great vintage in Bordeaux. The 750ml bottles are not drinking yet but half bottles are in their prime. Even though the wines are ready to drink they will benefit from decanting about an hour before you want to savour them.

The wines that we have selected have all been scored at 90 points or above by wine critics who have reviewed them. The points below are from Robert Parker / Jancis Robinson.

Food and wine
They all go very well with rich roast or grilled red meats and hard cheeses. See also our food and wine pairing guide here.

Did you know?
Back in the 14th and 15th centuries, when wines from Bordeaux were actually paler, almost like rosés they were nicknamed ‘claret’ by the British trade, derived from the Latin word for “clear”. The first known references to ‘claret’ as dark red wines were in the 1700s when history buffs will recall that France and England were at war. The English replaced Bordeaux with dark red Portuguese wines to satisfy their thirst. Not the last time when a word that meant one thing suddenly is used to mean something different!
