Viña La Playa 2021 Sauvignon Blanc

£7.60
Tasting notes
A delicate pale gold. On the nose, aromas of lemon and fresh pineapple. It is a bright well balanced wine with a clean minerality and touch of lime and green peppers on the finish. Great as an aperitif or with fish and chili-based dishes. Somewhat fuller than one might expect.

Why we recommend this wine
Chilean Sauvignon Blancs are value-for-money alternatives to those grown in other regions – and this is a good example.

The wine
Sauvignon Blanc grapes grown in the Curicio Valley which is situated 115 miles south of the Chilean capital of Santiago. They share a similar latitude of 35°S with the southern tip of Spain. The vineyards are planted in the eastern part near the Andes Mountains which is the coolest portion within the Curico valley. Influenced by the Mediterranean climate this region is one of the best regions in Chile to produce consistent Sauvignon Blanc with fresh, lively acidity. The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks and aged sur lie for 2 months.
La Playa wines have always been farmed sustainably, that is, no chemicals; water-saving irrigation practices; only native yeast strains are used and no genetically modified organisms.

The wine estate
Viña La Playa is a partnership between the Axelsens (who own CabCorp Wine Merchants in Marin, California) and two prominent Chilean winemaking legends: the Sutil and Errázuriz families. The winery encompasses 600 acres of prime property in the Colchagua Valley, plus 200 acres in Limarí Valley and additional vineyards in such highly desirable areas such as Curicó Valley, Bío-Bío and Maule Valley. They are firmly committed to organic principles in the vineyard and the winery.
